We are looking for a Quantum Engineer Intern (Experiment) to join our Coherence team in Espoo, Finland. The Coherence team’s mission is to characterize and improve the coherence times of superconducting qubits—one of the key performance drivers of quantum processors.
In this role, you will perform standard characterization of qubit test devices, analyze and report results, and contribute to the development of advanced protocols for identifying and characterizing decoherence mechanisms in quantum devices. You will collaborate closely with qubit design, fabrication, and other QPU Technology teams, gaining exposure to real-world quantum hardware development.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to work in an industrial R&D environment while learning from experienced quantum engineers.
What will I be doing?
Characterizing superconducting qubits and related test devices
Installing devices, running measurements, and performing data analysis
Interpreting, documenting, and reporting experimental results to stakeholders
Contributing to the development and improvement of coherence metrology methods
Supporting R&D and internal projects focused on coherence improvement under guidance of experienced quantum engineers
What skills do I need?
MSc studies (completed or ongoing) in experimental physics, electrical engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
Familiarity with basic concepts of quantum physics
Basic understanding of Python programming and good software development practices, familiarity with version control systems
Basic understanding of microwave measurement techniques
Prior experience of working in a R&D laboratory environment or an equivalent level of hands-on experience with R&D measurement equipment
Ability to communicate clearly in English, both orally and in writing
Would be advantageous if you have
Basic knowledge of superconducting qubit or microwave resonator physics
Prior hands-on laboratory experience with cryogenic or microwave measurements
Requirements for R&D intern applicants:
Internships must be full-time, 7.5 hours a day
Base salary: MSc level 2500€/month
Has the right to work in Finland. No visas/permits or relocation assistance will be provided for intern roles
