Production Engineer
IQM is a global leader in designing, building, and selling superconducting quantum computers. IQM provides both on-premises full-stack quantum computers and a cloud platform to access its computers anywhere in the world. IQM customers include the leading high-performance computing centers, research labs, universities and enterprises which have full access to IQM's software and hardware. IQM has over 300 employees with offices in Finland, Germany, France, Spain, Poland, South Korea Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and the US.
In this role, you help turn quantum chip designs into real wafers with consistent quality and reliable lead times. You will implement wafer-level QPU and test wafer production in our cleanroom, follow well-defined routes in our MES, and keep production moving when reality does what it usually does in a lab. Your work supports smooth deliveries and gives our teams dependable hardware to test, learn, and improve.
What will I be doing?
Run wafer-level QPU and chip production processes in the cleanroom, including lithography, metallization, etching, metrology, dicing, wet processes, thermal processes, and chemical handling
Execute production based on MES process routes and standard operating procedures
Follow the planned schedule and raise blockers early, then troubleshoot and reschedule together with your team lead and cross teams
Support just in time production and lean ways of working in daily operations
Improve production readiness by reviewing and testing MES routes, SPC limits, and standard operating procedures, and by giving clear feedback to MES developer and IT
Handle cleanroom chemicals safely and track consumption to keep stock levels healthy
Manage production material lifecycle in the cleanroom together with the Material Specialist
Report abnormal process situations and work with process engineers and equipment engineers to drive corrective actions
Coordinate day to day with fabrication, cleanroom, packaging and quality, facilities, and delivery teams to align on requirements and timing
Stay close to equipment status by collaborating with equipment engineers and escalating when needed
Report incidents, near misses, and accidents to the Team Leader and Health and Safety responsible person
What skills do I need?
Degree from a university of applied sciences or equivalent in a relevant technical field
At least 5 years of hands-on laboratory experience, ideally in a cleanroom or semiconductor style environment
Practical experience running wafer processes and working with process documentation and traceable records
Strong discipline in following standard operating procedures to achieve consistent results
Confidence working with chemicals and a clear commitment to safe cleanroom practices
Ability to describe problems and possible solutions clearly to colleagues who understand fabrication in general but may not know the details
A team mindset: you respect other people’s work, keep good records, and communicate smoothly across teams
Comfortable working with schedules and priorities in a production environment
What skills are nice to have?
Experience with manufacturing execution systems, process routes, and production tracking
Familiarity with SPC thinking and basic production quality controls
Experience supporting lean improvements or just in time production
Background in superconducting devices, microfabrication, or quantum chip related work
What can I expect from IQM?
An opportunity to work with a passionate and diverse team on an important mission.
A unique chance to make a real impact on the future of quantum computing.
Growth and progress in a creative and open start-up environment.
