At IQM, we are pioneering the next generation of quantum computers. Our experimental and theoretical teams work hand-in-hand, allowing us to extract maximum value from our unique, large-scale quantum hardware. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Quantum Error Correction (QEC) Experiment Engineer to drive the implementation and demonstration of QEC capabilities, providing critical input to our technology strategy and advancing our roadmap.
This position blends experimental work with software development and offers the opportunity to contribute to key technical decisions that shape the future of our quantum computers.
What will I be doing?
- Implement, execute, analyze, and report results of QEC capability benchmark and demonstration experiments.
- Develop features for the Quantum Computer Control Software technology stack according to IQM's QEC roadmap, in collaboration with quantum and software engineering teams.
- Identify technology-stack requirements for QEC and suggest improvements.
- Collaborate in daily and weekly meetings to coordinate team efforts.
What skills do I need?
Technical experience (at least two required):
- Calibration methods of superconducting qubits and QPUs beyond running gate-level jobs on cloud quantum computers. QPU design experience is a plus.
- Quantum error correction (QEC) experiments and data analysis; familiarity with the literature is a plus.
- Software engineering in Python, including environment management, testing, documentation, and version control; professional software development experience is a plus.
- Digital and analog features of quantum computer control hardware; experience with requirements engineering is a plus.
- Tools for modeling errors in quantum circuits.
- Quantum information and QEC theory; knowledge of alternative quantum error-correcting codes is a plus.
Required skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to make work reproducible and usable for others.
- Willingness and ability to collaborate in a diverse, multidisciplinary team.
Education / experience:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience; PhD is a plus.
What can I expect from IQM?
- Work with unique, large-scale superconducting quantum hardware.
- Collaborate closely with both experimentalists and theorists - there is a lot to learn with us from both sides.
- Contribute directly to shaping our technology strategy.
- Be part of a dynamic, international team at the forefront of quantum computing.
