Quantum Systems Implementation Engineer (Junior)
IQM is a global leader in designing, building, and selling superconducting quantum computers. IQM provides both on-premises full-stack quantum computers and a cloud platform to access its computers anywhere in the world. IQM customers include the leading high-performance computing centres, research labs, universities and enterprises which have full access to IQM's software and hardware. IQM has over 300 employees with offices in Finland, Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Singapore and the US.
In this role, you help turn complex hardware into reliable, measurable systems. You work side by side with Production and R&D teams to support smooth system deliveries, improve measurement setups, and build practical upgrades into everyday lab work. You will learn fast, take ownership of well scoped engineering tasks, and contribute to performance improvements that make our quantum systems more stable and easier to operate.
What will I be doing?
Support commissioning and performance evaluation of cryogenic systems used for RF and quantum device testing
Perform RF measurements, analyse data, and contribute to interpretation of system performance
Install, test, and verify cryogenic and room temperature RF cabling, attenuators, amplifiers, filters, and coaxial assemblies
Troubleshoot RF signal integrity, impedance mismatches, and noise related issues in measurement setups
Take ownership of small engineering tasks or sub projects, including planning, execution, documentation, and reporting
Coordinate with scientists and senior engineers to develop improved measurement setups
Maintain a safe, organized lab environment and follow proper handling of sensitive equipment
Participate in continuous improvement by proposing practical design or process enhancements
Work collaboratively with Production and R and D to support reliable deliveries and feedback loops that improve future builds
What skills do I need?
BSc or MSc in electrical engineering, physics, applied physics, telecommunications, or a closely related field
Solid understanding of RF fundamentals including S parameters, transmission lines, attenuation, and amplification
Experience with RF test equipment such as VNA, spectrum analyzer, and signal generators
Ability to interpret measurement data, spot anomalies, and communicate findings clearly to different audiences
Hands on ability for precision assembly, wiring, and careful lab work with sensitive equipment
Comfort working in tight spaces during installations and routing cabling cleanly and safely
A structured way of working with good documentation habits
A collaborative mindset and willingness to ask questions, learn, and improve how things are done
What skills are nice to have?
Basic understanding of cryogenics and vacuum systems
Experience with low noise measurement practices and signal integrity work
Familiarity with calibration workflows and measurement automation
Any prior lab experience in RF, microwave, or cryogenic environments from studies, projects, or internships
What can I expect from IQM?
At IQM, you can expect to contribute to groundbreaking projects that shape the future of quantum computing. Your work on calibration automation software is mission-critical: the frameworks you build and scale directly enable the calibration and operation of increasingly large quantum processors, from today’s systems to future architectures.
You will thrive in a creative and open start-up environment that values technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement. IQM encourages engineers to take responsibility for meaningful parts of the system, influence technical direction, and continuously refine performance, usability, testing, and documentation. Learning and innovation are part of everyday work, supported by close collaboration with highly skilled quantum engineers and scientists.
We offer a highly international and fast-paced environment where collaboration across disciplines and cultures is essential. You’ll work closely with calibration engineers, software teams, and R&D groups across locations, contributing to shared solutions and ensuring that complex systems work seamlessly together.
As a rapidly growing organization, you have the opportunity to play a significant role in our exciting success story. Your contributions will have visible impact as the company scales its technology and software platforms. Senior engineers are not just implementers. They are trusted partners in building the foundations of a global quantum computing leader.
