Head of Marketing & Communications
IQM is a global leader in designing, building, and selling superconducting quantum computers. IQM provides both on-premises full-stack quantum computers and a cloud platform to access its computers anywhere in the world. IQM customers include the leading high-performance computing centres, research labs, universities and enterprises which have full access to IQM's software and hardware. IQM has over 280 employees with offices in Finland, Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Singapore and the US.
The main goal for the new Head of Marketing and Communications will be to shape IQM’s market perception, be responsible for amplifying our technological breakthroughs, engage our diverse stakeholders, solidify our position as a thought leader in the quantum computing revolution globally, and engage with our clients and partners.
You will lead and inspire a talented team of marketers, directly overseeing the company's communications and public relations efforts, and integrating them seamlessly with a robust marketing strategy.
This role requires a deep understanding of technology, a proven track record in international markets, and a forward-thinking approach to leveraging AI in sales and marketing and overall business. You will be reporting directly to the Chief Commercial Officer.
Location: Hybrid or Onsite — Finland, Germany, Spain, France, Poland, or the USA
What will I be doing?
- Strategic Leadership & Vision:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive global marketing and communications strategy that aligns with IQM’s business objectives, brand identity, and growth targets.
- Further develop and articulate across all touchpoints the unique value proposition of IQM's quantum computing solutions to a global audience of HPCs, researchers, investors, government entities, and the general public.
- Serve as a primary brand steward, representing the company at the external and internal events, ensuring consistent messaging and visual identity across all internal and external touchpoints worldwide.
- Monitor market trends, competitive landscapes, and emerging technologies (especially AI and quantum-AI convergence) to identify opportunities and challenges.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and empower a high-performing marketing and communications team, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and accountability.
- Oversee the Company's communications functions, including public relations, media relations, internal communications, and social media.
- Hands on cross-functional collaboration with product development, sales, and research teams to ensure integrated go-to-market strategies and compelling content creation.
- Global Brand Management & Marketing:
- Develop and manage the global brand strategy, ensuring consistent and impactful messaging across diverse international markets.
- Lead the planning and execution of integrated marketing campaigns, including digital marketing, content marketing, events, and partnerships, with a strong focus on generating qualified leads and increasing market share internationally.
- Oversee the creation of compelling marketing collateral, presentations, website content, and thought leadership pieces that translate complex quantum concepts into accessible and engaging narratives.
- Leverage data and analytics to measure campaign effectiveness, optimize marketing spend, and demonstrate ROI across global initiatives.
- Understanding of AI in Business:
- Demonstrated understanding of how AI is transforming marketing and communications, including applications in data analysis, personalization, content generation, and predictive analytics.
- Ability to strategically integrate AI tools and methodologies into marketing operations to enhance efficiency, targeting, and effectiveness.
- Relevant certifications or proven work experience in AI in business or AI for marketing are highly desirable.
- Company Communications & Public Relations:
- Oversee global public relations strategy, cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with key media, industry analysts, and influencers worldwide.
- Work with the Head of PR to develop and implement proactive and reactive media strategies, positioning IQM as a global leader in quantum computing.
- Manage crisis communications effectively, safeguarding the company's reputation and ensuring transparent, timely, and accurate information dissemination across all channels.
- Lead internal communications initiatives to foster a highly engaged, informed, and aligned global workforce, ensuring consistent understanding of company vision, strategy, and milestones.
What skills do I need?
- 12+ years of progressive experience in marketing and communications leadership roles, with at least 5 years specifically as a Senior Brand Manager or equivalent position within an internationally operating technology company.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing global brand strategy and marketing initiatives across multiple markets; USA experience would be a bonus.
- A strong understanding of the technology landscape, particularly in deep tech or emerging technologies. Prior experience in quantum computing, high-performance computing, or complex scientific fields is highly advantageous.
- Proven understanding of current AI in business, with practical experience in leveraging AI for marketing and communication strategies. Relevant certifications are a significant plus.
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to motivate, develop, and guide diverse teams.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication, presentation, and storytelling abilities, capable of translating highly technical concepts into clear, compelling narratives for varied audiences.
- Strong analytical skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making and a track record of measuring and optimizing marketing performance.
- Expertise in media relations, public relations strategies, and crisis communications.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth, and rapidly evolving industry.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally.
