We are looking for an expert in Fermionic Simulation with quantum computers to join our team to support our mission of expanding the frontier of scientific and technological progress in quantum science.
You will be embedded in the Algorithm and Error Control Department, Simulation team and in constant exchange with other technical R&D teams at IQM. Our Simulation team is very active in exploring and optimising quantum algorithms, in particular for the simulation of quantum many-body problems. If you enjoy your academic freedom but want to move closer to the real applications of quantum computers - this job is for you!
In this R&D position you will be collaborating daily with other quantum algorithm engineers, while keeping close contact with our quantum hardware teams. IQM is a low-hierarchy start-up so the feedback loop is short and you will be able to enjoy the accelerated impact of your daily decisions. Ideally, you will be located in Munich, but we are open to consider other IQM locations for the right person!
What will I be doing?
- You will be developing new and improving existing quantum algorithms for problems from quantum chemistry and condensed matter physics.
- You will be implementing quantum algorithms on (potentially tailor-made co-design) IQM quantum hardware.
- You will be publishing high impact research at the frontier of quantum science.
What skills do I need?
Required skills
- PhD in quantum chemistry, theoretical physics, computer science, applied mathematics or similar field or equivalent company experience.
- Deep knowledge of quantum algorithms and quantum information theory.
- Advanced knowledge of classical algorithms for quantum chemistry and/or condensed matter physics, i.e. QMC, TN, CC, SCI, DMET, DMFT, DFT…
- Provable experience (in the form of scientific publications) in developing quantum algorithms for simulation, i.e. QSE, QRTE, QITE, QPE, QSCI, QSP…
- 2+ years of experience in developing code for scientific applications.
Nice-to-have skills
- Experience in quantum error correction and error mitigation techniques.
- Experience in running quantum algorithms on quantum hardware.
- Knowledge of the theory of superconducting circuits.
Soft skills
- You feel comfortable in a team-oriented collaborative environment.
- You keep your skills and knowledge fresh and are always eager to learn more.
- You create elegant solutions amidst complexity.
- You care deeply about building quality and keeping the internal and external quality of your code high.
- You understand how to balance current needs with future capability and extensibility.
What I can expect from IQM?
- An excellent opportunity to collaborate on world-class R&D and cutting-edge technology
- An opportunity to work with a passionate and diverse company on a critical mission
- A unique opportunity to make a real impact on the future of quantum
- Growth and progress in a creative and open start-up environment
- Team with a relaxed and cozy atmosphere
