Process Engineer, Deposition
IQM is the European leader in superconducting quantum computers, established in Espoo, Finland. Since 2019, we have grown to 270+ employees and have established subsidiaries in Germany, Spain, France, the US and Singapore. We build quantum computers for research laboratories and supercomputing centers. For industrial customers, we deliver quantum advantage through our unique application-specific co-design approach.
We build world-leading quantum computers for the well-being of humankind now and for the future.
We are seeking a talented and experienced Process Engineer to join our dynamic team and contribute to the advancement of quantum chip fabrication.
As a Process Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development and optimization of fabrication processes for quantum chips. Your primary responsibilities will include defining, designing, and implementing experiments to enhance the quality and performance of quantum chips towards achieving quantum advantage.
What will I be doing?
- Design and execute experiments to develop or optimize specific steps in the quantum chip fabrication process, with a primary focus on the deposition module. Experience in other fabrication processes, such as lithography and etching, is an advantage.
- Conduct experiments independently or in collaboration with technicians to ensure reliable and consistent results. Collaborate with equipment engineers and production engineers to address equipment status, requirements, and concerns.
- Understand and define process windows, characterize unit processes, and implement out-of-control action plans (OCAPs) as needed.
- Maintain effective communication channels with stakeholders, report incidents and accidents, and provide regular updates and detailed reports on project progress and outcomes.
- Actively participate in weekly planning and reporting meetings, contributing to team objectives and continuous improvement efforts.
What skills do I need?
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in process development with one or more deposition techniques, including expertise in thin film deposition (Evaporation, PVD, ALD, Electroplating). Industry and cleanroom work experience preferred.
- A Master’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, materials science and engineering, or related fields.
- Deep understanding of micro/nanofabrication processes, particularly in the context of quantum chip fabrication. Proficiency in statistical process control (SPC), design of experiment (DOE), failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), and knowledge of basic data-analysis tools.
- Positive attitude, self-motivated, and open to continuous learning and professional development.
- A team-oriented mindset, with a commitment to safety, collaboration, and maintaining meticulous records.
